Dieselalhambra Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 My 1998 seat alhambra (almost a galaxy !) has developed the following problem with the drivers electric window. With the double switch on drivers door , the drivers window will not open or close, but i can open the passengers window with this switch, but it will not close passenger window, using drivers double switch. The passenger window switch will open and close the passengers electric window. From posts in this forum , it may be broken wires , if i remove door card can anyone advise which wire / connections i would need to test and how. Also if it is broken wires how do you remove door plug and rubber boot. Quote
Guest nimrod Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 The plug on the A post unscrews slightly then pulls out! if you remove the switch you can see what wires are used and bell them out that way, but off the top of my head the commons (feed) red yellow and the up and down are red/green and brown/blue, but dont hold me that its been a while since i stripped my door down! As for testing the wires set the meter to ohms it may buzz when the test probes are put together in this setting? buzz out the cables fom end to end and hopefully find the bad ones! also give the cables a little tug to see if they pull apart at where the break is! dont pull them out of the connector though  Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 I don't think you will need to remove the door card to investigate and fix broken wires.Good luck. Quote
Guest chrisH Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I had exactly the same problem on my 98 Galaxy. As suggested you can unscrew the connection into the A post, you then need to pull back the rubber protection thingy covering the wires. Doing this I found it was the fatter RED/YELLOW wire that had broken.I could'nt get one of the blue wire connectors into the confined space so had to remove the door panel, then carefully cut through the black sticky sealer around the edge, then realised that i could have just taken the speaker out to get to the wires. Once i'd connected a new wire it is only a matter of getting the pin out of the plug and putting it on the new wire and putting everything back in its right place. I was suprised at the condition of the broken wire and that none of the others looked perished or damaged. Anyway, jobs a good un, all works fine. Quote
Dieselalhambra Posted March 20, 2004 Author Report Posted March 20, 2004  Many thanks i will try to find fault and fix. Quote
Dieselalhambra Posted May 25, 2004 Author Report Posted May 25, 2004 Finally got to my window problemRemoved door card and pulled back boot on cable found red green wire broken. Now need to fix -What is the best way to splice a new wire into door loom , ie what type of connector. How do you remove plug at door pillar end and how do you remove wire from plug and when new wire is fitted do you need a special connector for plug.I can only see one wire is broken , in haynes manual it says its 2.5mm diameter do you need to use only 2.5mm to repair. When i repair this wire and the window still does not work can anyone advise what other chacks may be necassary. Guest chrisH Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 IIRC I used needle nose pliers and a really fine watchmaker type flat bladed screwdriver to open the wire grips on the pin from the multi connector and to get the pin out of the connector I used the same screwdriver to 'release' the 'catch'. If you look closely at the pins in the connector you can see how they are held in. Good luck. Quote
Dieselalhambra Posted May 27, 2004 Author Report Posted May 27, 2004 Thanks for the advice on the plug end.My broken wire is 2.5mm.The haynes manual wiring diagram states 2.5mm wire , i can only find 2mm and 3mm at the car spares shops. What size wire did you use ?Also what type of connectors did you use to fix new wire into door loom. :( Quote
ALARM MAN Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 Use any of the larger wire it will not harm italso solder like i did if you can ian Quote
